Bearing Others

Bearing Others

"When you think that you're not above anyone but also know that you're not beneath anyone either, that is humility-" Pamela D. Smith

James 4: 6, "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

As we continue with our monthly life coaching,

this month is about humility.

In today's society we see people accomplishing more than they ever have. We live in a social media driven era so this makes it possible for people to share their accomplishments with the world. As I look at some of the comments on social media, I see some people taking showing accomplishments to mean bragging. Comments are made instructing others to stay humble.

Humility is the quality of being humble. However humbleness does not mean that one can't share their accomplishments, highlights, and the joys of their life.

Humility does not mean that you hide the good that's going on in your life in order to make someone else feel better about the bad that may be going on in theirs.

Humility is when you are free from arrogance. Humility is when you understand that God's grace is the reason that things are as well with you as they are. When we hide our blessings we don't give others the opportunity to see the grace of God at work in our lives.

This month's life coaching action is to pray for a better understanding of what it means to be humble. After praying, consider the following behaviors of a humble person:

1. A humble person shows appreciation to others. They give compliments even when they see others doing better than them. They show humility by telling others when they are doing good.

2. A humble person deals with their biases, prejudices, and judgments. They do not hold on to strong opinions about others and the way that they do things. They are open to differences. They do not argue to try to prove their point while failing to accept or hear someone else's.

3. A humble person allows life to teach them. They allow themselves to be humbled by their experiences. They understand that every situation is a teaching moment. They know that with God, there are no real losses. They either win or they learn.

Prayer: God I thank you for the spirit of humility. Help me to understand that I am to be clothed in compassion, kindness, and patience. As you continue to bear with me Lord, I will bear with others. Thank you for giving me grace as I continue to be humble. Don't ever allow me to have a prideful spirit. May I have the spirit of Jesus and be reminded that any exalting can only come from you. In Jesus name. Amen
